Power Engineering Faculty. Short Presentation
The Power Engineering Faculty has been founded in 1950, being now the largest in the country among other eight similar faculties. During its half-century activity, the Power Engineering Faculty (PEF) continuously shaped its training system, according to the needs of modern power engineering and to its environmental and economical aspects.
Active research programs, based on scientific co-operation contracts with specialized industry units mark the activity of the teaching staff in the faculty. The faculty is equipped with research hardware resources and the industrial laboratories within the faculty give the students the opportunity of a direct contact with real installations. Among these facilities we should mention the gas-fired Cogeneration Power Plant, the High Voltage Laboratory with outdoor test platform modeling life-size overhead transmission lines of 110...750kV and the Laboratory of Hydraulic Machines.
At present, the total number of undergraduate students is about 2000; also, in the last years PEF has awarded 114 Master degrees in engineering and 22 Ph.D. For training purposes, lectures, application classes, experimental work and design activities are organized. In the last two decades new laboratories have been founded in PEF, for teaching purposes, research work or industrial tests. Typical examples are: Industrial Thermal Equipment, Power Process Modeling, Hydraulic and Pneumatic Equipment.
